In The Garden

Tom stood daydreaming with a hoe in his hand. The days are getting longer now, as it is late spring, and life has begun a new cycle. As he pondered his station in life, he considered himself, a blessed man, a man at peace.

Almost fifty years of being married, to the same good woman, provided him with many memories. After the funeral, everyone drifted away and began to go about their own business. Once more, he was alone. Even though he lives a solitary life now, he can draw on these wonderful memories. Working in his garden gives him something to do, and provides sustenance, both in the physical and spiritual sense.

What a joy it is to hear the birds sing; the mockingbird was her favorite, he recalls, while he enjoys hearing the raucous sounds of the jays and the special song of the cardinal. Many folks do not realize the notes the red bird can vocalize.

The warm sunshine and the scent of flowers wafting on the gentle breeze are special gifts from Father God.

Looks like the tomato plants are coming right along. Soon, they will provide for the dinner table and maybe some to share.
