Let There Be Light

And God said, "Let there be light": and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. - Genesis 1:3-4

The golden shafts of light bathed the scene as the dark clouds began to break up. The weather had been dreary, and with rain almost every day since he arrived in this faraway land. It matched his mood.

Henry left his home in Mississippi to save his sanity. His wife had left him for another man. It was a total surprise, without warning, and the most painful experience of his life.

Henry was a school teacher and a church-going man. He served as a deacon in the little Baptist church in the small town of Collins, Mississippi - just southeast of Jackson. His faith in God was strong, and he was reminded of the words of the Holy Bible as he gazed at the phenomenon before him. He recalled the words of Jesus when He said, ".... I am the light of the world." He wondered, "Perhaps this is a sign from above. Is this beautiful scene before my eyes an omen that God still loves me and has a plan for my life?"

Henry pondered, "How can one be so in love one year and not the next? What changed her heart? How does one heal from the anguish of a broken heart? Is there anyone who has been through this besides me? There are so many questions and so few answers."

Henry turned and headed back to the cabin on the edge of the cliff. It was time to rethink this period of his life.

As he walked, he mused, "This is a remote and beautiful place. There is peace here. Maybe I will just stay and teach. I will speak to the elders of the village tomorrow."

"I need to call my brother in Collins and ask him to sell my property. I will use those funds to buy this cabin. I am home again! "
